The project that got me into engineering, Designed a mars rover for a competion with my friend. Modelled and rendered using solidworks. Tesla's Cybertruck inspired chassis.
Key Design Features:
6 wheel drive each designed with its own brushless DC motor, choosing this over other motor types gives us better traction control, power and battery management.
Rocker-boogie steering and suspension mechanism: Choose this not only is it planetary exploration standard. It keeps all 6 wheels in contact with the ground at all times, able to climb obstacles 2 times its diameter. Simpler build, thus lesser maintenance. Though the same advantages forces lower speeds due to no suspension.
Differential mechanism to fix body relative to the linakages to keep body from pivoting losse.
Pick and place robotic arm built into the front of the rover used to collect samples
Storage compartments for sample collection built within the chassis along side battery and electronic compartments
Aluminum chassis and linkages for lightweighting
Contoured tire treads rounding off the V-shaped ones used by NASA's curiosity which caused alot or tire wear and stress concentrations.
