Co-founded a rocket team at my university to inspire my college kids to dream big! We were underfunded (not funded at all), scrappy, was told by everybody it would fail and we were actively sabotaged by other teams that felt we were a threat. We worked in dorm rooms, angle grinding and sanding in bathrooms, test fired rocket propellant in terraces, Blew up my room and almost got suspended. Despite everything we prevailed and it was the greatest year of my life so far! Raised funds built the only in house flight computer PCB in the country. We are selected for The Latin space cup in Brazil and will be launching in September given a launch window.
Key Project Details :
Expected target altitude - 10,000ft
Height - 8ft
Fiber Glass Composite body frame - Does not exhibit electromagnetic shielding
Integrated airbrakes withing the avionics compartment for precise apogee control.
Maximum Velocity- Mach 1.2
Payload Capacity - 8.8 pounds deployable
Dual Parachute Deployment - Drogue and Main parachutes in separate compartments
Space between for parachutes and payload can be seen, as well as the engine, couplers, avionics compartment, aluminum nose tip (heat dissipation). Eyebolts serve as the fictures to which the parachutes are held to the rocket body. It is deployed by ejection charges.
Electronics arrangement not shown, airbrakes deployed by cam-follower mechanism, powered by a stepper motor for precise brake deployment depending on flight speed as calculated by the flight computer.
CFD Simulation at Mach 1.2
FEM simulation of Bulkhead
CFD optimisation of Nosecone
